Highlights of the Baie-D’Urfé Council Meeting of March 12 2024
These notes are an overview. The meeting and agenda, in its entirety, can be found on the Town website.
Meeting Opened by Mayor Ektvedt and the agenda was adopted with one addition
First Question Period (1 min)
- Speed restriction on Westchester installed but no radar detection near Fritz Park. Question is when will radar detection be installed. Second question is: will the traffic measures in the Westchester/Stafford intersection be reconsidered in line with North American standards.
Response is that there is no intention to introduce a permanent radar detection in this location currently. Town’s movable radar detection system has now arrived, a smaller unit may be located to gather data.
Stop signs and traffic calming is carried out in line with the Police – no plan to review Westchester at this time.
- Will council support a motion to support the discussion with Transport Quebec on harmonization of traffic calming measures around parks and schools. Second question is have the measures introduced made a difference – should we be validating the changes.
Town believes that we are in a better place than others and the Town is following guidance. The Town is continuing to monitor with the equipment available and adjust policy accordingly.
- Will council reintroduce “Nos enfants” signs to educate our citizens.
Similar signs have been used and been vandalized but other methods are very successful – it will be reviewed by council.
- Ash trees are being taken down – question is what is the intention for the use of this wood ?. Are we considering benches?
A beautification project – near the library is going to be introduced to remember the Ash Tree. If successful others will follow.
- How much does the city collect for by-law infractions?
Administration will reach out to residents for further clarification and respond accordingly.
- John Weir Park revamp being put on hold due to drainage – if this is the case could another park be considered.
There is no budget allocated in 2024 – other revamps will be considered in future budget reviews.
- Stump removal of a downed tree that has been determined to be Town responsibility – it has resulted in growing vermin infestation. When will the town remove the offending stump?.
The offending stump is on the Town’s list for removal.
