The Baie-d\u2019Urf\u00e9 Citizen\u2019s Association gave birth to many groups and events. Mary Coulter Burnaby shared her reminiscences of life then in the publication \u201cBaie d\u2019Urfe 1686-1986\u201d:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u201cThe very first Baie d\u2019Urfe Day\u201d (July 19<\/em>th<\/em><\/sup>,1947)\u201d was a gala event, winding up with a dance under the stars on the lawn back of the Town Hall. There was the inevitable raffle to help defray expenses.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u201cJoyce Hartnell, who was a long-time and very creative resident, organized and was chief executor of an admirable puppet theatre and her elderly father and members of the troupe created the puppets and props and designed and sewed costumes. Joyce wrote most of the skits.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\"There was also an egg throwing contest which was a real big thing for Baie d\u2019Urfe Day. Eggs even ended up in the ladies dresses\u2026 which resulted in laughter and mad looks on the ladies who received such a treat\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\"Square dancing, Kentucky style, by Ermon Fay Duschenes became quite the thing for adults in Baie-d\u2019Urf\u00e9.\"<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Rose Nairn recalls the dancing during the Baie d\u2019Urfe Day:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\"In the evening we had the dance on the lawn. A big tarpaulin was pegged down for our dance floor and we had the trees all decorated with lovely lighting arrangements and lanterns. It was very lovely when I look back on it.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
